One-to-One English Tuition

I am a GTCS registered, recently retired teacher with over 30 years of experience, offering additional help with English in the form of tutoring.

If your child is experiencing difficulty with English; preparing for an important exam or wants to improve in specific areas of English,  then I can offer expert support.

All aspects of the English curriculum can be covered, and I have a great deal of experience in teaching and preparing pupils for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher SQA qualifications. In addition, I can assist younger pupils with the Broad General Education extremely effectively. Model and specimen papers, along with other quality, school-compatible and SQA-approved resources, provide useful tools to help become equipped to tackle tests, targets, prelims and final exams.

In addition, I am very experienced in tutoring children whose first language is not English; therefore, I understand the needs of bilingual children. Moreover, I teach Drama at all levels as I am also experienced and qualified in this area.

English Tutor Edinburgh offers:

Free 10–15 minute consultation (online or by phone)
Before booking, you're welcome to arrange a free Teams call to discuss goals and aspirations. You can ask questions about my teaching approaches and find out whether we could collaborate and work well together.

Personalised Progress Review and Plan
Every four weeks, I can provide a personalised progress summary outlining development, key strengths, priorities for improvement, and recommended next steps. This can follow an optional assessment of what we have learnt together so far.

Every lesson is individually planned.

Lessons are tailored to each student's goals, current level and preferred way of learning. Whether preparing for Higher English, improving professional communication or developing confidence in English, lessons are designed around the individual rather than a standard course.

What you can expect:
1. Flexible online or in-person lessons in Edinburgh.
2. Lessons can be one-to-one or paired with another student.
3. A warm, supportive and professional learning environment.
4. Individually planned lessons based on your goals.
5. Clear explanations and practical strategies.
6. Honest, constructive feedback.
7. A personalised learning roadmap following an initial assessment.
8. Optional progress reviews every four weeks.
